What is selenite, in one line

Selenite is a variety of gypsum — calcium sulphate dihydrate. It is a genuinely soft mineral at Mohs 2, which is why the care note below matters more for this stone than for almost anything else we sell. The name comes from Selene, the Greek moon goddess, because a thin piece glows when light passes through it.

Which selenite piece should I buy first?

Most people start with a charging plate, the traditional place to rest other crystals. For something to wear, choose the selenite bracelet.

Can a selenite bracelet get wet?

No. Selenite is gypsum and dissolves slowly in water. Take it off before washing your hands, bathing or swimming.

How do I tell real selenite from glass or plastic?

Real selenite is very soft (a fingernail can mark it), has a silky fibrous sheen, and feels warmer than glass. Very hard, glassy, perfectly clear pieces are usually not selenite.

Why is my selenite bracelet so light?

Selenite is a low-density mineral, so it weighs much less than quartz beads of the same size. That is normal.
