A knife-shaped blade carved from a single piece of natural selenite — translucent white, with the fine lengthwise striations typical of the stone. Hold it up to a light and you can see straight through the thinner sections. Weight 150 g. Stock is limited, because these are carved one at a time.

The tradition

Selenite has a specific place in crystal practice: it is the stone people keep for clearing rituals, and the one most often used on other stones rather than on its own. A blade shape is drawn in a cutting motion through the air — around a person, across a doorway, over an object — as a gesture that marks an intention to let something go. Others simply keep it beside the bed or on an altar as an object.

That is a tradition and a gesture. It is not a mechanism.

About the stone

Selenite is a crystalline form of gypsum — calcium sulphate dihydrate, CaSO₄·2H₂O. It sits at Mohs 2, which is exactly why it can be carved into a blade this thin, and exactly why the blade will scratch if you are careless with it. Your own fingernail, at about 2.5, is harder.

The part most sellers leave out: the large majority of items sold as “selenite” are satin spar, the fibrous milky-white form of gypsum. True selenite forms transparent bladed crystals and splinters under a carving tool. Both are the same mineral and neither is fake — we say so because you should know what you are holding. Care — read this one

Selenite dissolves in water. Not eventually, not with long soaking — it starts to go cloudy and pitted with any real contact. Never wash it, never leave it in a bathroom or anywhere humid, and keep it off a damp windowsill. Dust it with a soft dry brush or cloth.

It is also soft enough to be scratched by almost any other crystal, so store it on its own. Gypsum has perfect cleavage in one direction, and a thin blade is the shape most likely to snap along it — do not flex it.

Is this real selenite, and how can I tell? +

Selenite is a crystallised form of gypsum — calcium sulphate with water built into its structure. It is exceptionally soft at Mohs 2, softer than a fingernail is hard. It is very light for its size, splits into thin sheets, and a fingernail will mark it. Anything that resists a fingernail is not selenite.

How should I look after this knife? +

This is the important one: water dissolves selenite. Never wash it, never soak it, never leave it anywhere damp, and never use it in a bathroom. Dust it with a dry cloth only. It also scratches if stacked with harder stones. A long thin blade of a Mohs-2 mineral snaps easily across the middle: lay it flat, never stand it in a pot, and support it along its length when you pick it up. It is a ritual object, not a cutting tool, and the edge will not stay sharp.

Does this knife cleanse or charge other crystals? +

No. Selenite is traditionally associated with that, and the tradition is genuine and often very old, but there is no scientific evidence that any stone can cleanse or charge other crystals, or that it produces any physical or psychological effect.
