Online Reiki Courses: Level 1 to Grand Master

What Reiki is
Reiki is a Japanese practice developed by Mikao Usui in the 1920s. A practitioner places their hands on or just above the body, working through a set sequence of positions. It is taught in levels, and each level is passed on by a teacher through a process called attunement — which is why Reiki is a lineage you are initiated into rather than a technique you can learn from a book.
The levels
- Reiki Level 1 + Level 2 — both foundation levels together. Level 1 covers self-practice; Level 2 introduces the symbols and distance work. Attunement, notes and certification included.
- Reiki Level 3 — the master symbol level, for those who have completed 1 and 2.
- Reiki Master Teacher Training — qualifies you to attune and teach others.
- Reiki Grand Master — the final level.

Choosing where to start
Almost everyone starts with Level 1 + Level 2 together, because Level 1 alone covers only self-practice and most people want to work on others too. Take the levels in order; a teacher who offers to skip you ahead is not following the lineage.
