About the stone

Two different minerals are sold as jade, and the distinction is worth knowing before you buy anything described that way. Nephrite is a calcium magnesium silicate with a dense interlocking fibrous structure that makes it extraordinarily tough — not hard, tough, meaning it resists breaking rather than scratching. It is the jade of Chinese carving tradition and of Māori taonga. Jadeite is a different mineral, rarer, harder, and the source of the very expensive translucent green material. A great deal of what is sold cheaply as jade is neither — it is serpentine, aventurine or dyed quartzite.

Our green jade is natural, earth-mined stone, hand-carved and checked in-house before dispatch. Calminds is an ISO 9001:2015 certified brand (Cert. No. CAF1Q0304V25). The tradition

Jade has been the most culturally significant stone in East Asia for thousands of years, carved for ritual objects long before it was jewellery, and it carries associations with harmony and good fortune that are genuinely ancient. In Indian practice a Ganesha is traditionally installed at a doorway or a desk and invoked at the start of new undertakings. Those traditions are why this collection exists.

They are traditions. Not one of them is a claim about what the stone will do for your money or your mood.

What is in the collection

Hand-carved Green Jade Ganesha idols, Lakshmi–Ganesh pairs, Stone Buddies, and green jade facial rollers and gua sha sets. Every carved piece is cut from a single natural block, so colour and veining differ from the photograph.

Care

Jade is tough but it chips when dropped on tile. Dust carved pieces with a soft dry brush, getting into the detail. Keep rollers dry between uses and wipe oil off after each use. Keep all of it away from harsh cleaners, which dull the polish.

What this is, and what it isn't

Green jade is a natural stone. Crystals have a long place in tradition and in ritual practice, and that is the spirit in which we sell them. There is no peer-reviewed evidence that any stone attracts money, changes your finances, treats a medical condition, or alters the physical energy of a room.
