Is this real selenite, and how can I tell? +

Selenite is a crystallised form of gypsum — calcium sulphate with water built into its structure. It is exceptionally soft at Mohs 2, softer than a fingernail is hard. It is very light for its size, splits into thin sheets, and a fingernail will mark it. Anything that resists a fingernail is not selenite.

How should I look after this bowl? +

This is the important one: water dissolves selenite. Never wash it, never soak it, never leave it anywhere damp, and never use it in a bathroom. Dust it with a dry cloth only. It also scratches if stacked with harder stones. Lift it supported from underneath rather than by the rim, which is the thinnest part and where cracks start.

Does this bowl cleanse or charge other crystals? +

No. Selenite is traditionally associated with that, and the tradition is genuine and often very old, but there is no scientific evidence that any stone can cleanse or charge other crystals, or that it produces any physical or psychological effect. Nothing here is medical, psychological or financial advice. What it honestly does is remind you of something you decided yourself.
