Selenite Crystal Ball

This Selenite Crystal Ball is a polished sphere of natural gypsum on a black tourmaline orgonite stand — the two stones crystal practice most associates with cleansing and with grounding, kept together as one object. The sphere is translucent, so light travels into it rather than bouncing off the surface.

Benefits

• Two stones, one object. Selenite for clearing, black tourmaline for grounding — the pairing people usually assemble themselves, already done.
• A sphere has no front. It reads the same from every side, which is why it suits a centre table or a desk you walk around.
• It cleanses the others. Rest a bracelet or a few tumbles beside it overnight.
• It needs nothing from you. No sunlight, no moonlight, no salt. Just keep it dry.
• Gift-ready as it arrives. Premium box, stand included, nothing to assemble.
• A ritual, not a promise. The associations come from tradition, not from measured properties.

How to use it

Put it where you actually spend time — a work desk, a bedside table, a centre table, a meditation corner. Somewhere you will see it, not a shelf you never look at. Place other crystals next to it when you want to refresh them.

In Vastu practice, spheres are commonly placed in the north or north-east of a room. If you would rather have a flat surface for charging several pieces at once, the Tree of Life selenite charging plate does that job better, and our guide on how to use a selenite charging plate covers the routine.

What it is made of

Selenite is a crystalline form of gypsum — hydrated calcium sulfate, CaSO₄·2H₂O — and sits at Mohs 2, the softest stone commonly sold for décor. Your fingernail, at about 2.5, is harder, so you can genuinely mark it. Everything in the care note follows from that.

The part most sellers leave out: the large majority of items sold as “selenite” are satin spar, the fibrous milky-white form of gypsum. True selenite forms transparent bladed crystals and shatters if you try to turn it on a lathe. Both are the same mineral and neither is fake — we mention it because you should know what you are holding. Our article on selenite bracelet benefits explains the difference in full.

Care — please read this one

Never let it touch water. Gypsum is genuinely water-soluble, and hot or slightly acidic water dissolves it faster. Do not wash it, do not wipe it with a damp cloth, and keep it off wet surfaces and out of bathrooms.

Dust it dry with a soft cloth. Keep it away from harder stones and keys — at Mohs 2 almost anything will scratch it. A sphere also rolls: keep it on its stand rather than loose on a hard surface, because gypsum has perfect cleavage in one direction and a short fall can split it cleanly.

What this is, and what it isn’t

Selenite’s cleansing associations come from crystal tradition, not from any measured property of gypsum. There is no peer-reviewed scientific evidence that crystals clear negativity from a space or from another stone, and nothing here diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents any medical condition. What a piece like this honestly gives you is a small ritual and a deliberate object in a room.
