Hematite Crystal
Hematite pieces in natural grey-black and in the golden finish. Five products in this collection.
About the stone
Hematite is iron oxide — chemically Fe₂O₃, and the single most important iron ore in the world. It is unusually heavy for its size, which is the first thing people notice picking up a hematite bracelet, and it takes a mirror polish that looks metallic rather than stony. The name comes from the Greek for blood: scratch hematite against unglazed porcelain and the streak it leaves is rust-red, not black. That is the standard field test for it.
The golden and rainbow finishes sold as hematite are surface treatments applied by vapour deposition, not natural colour. That is normal for the material and worth knowing rather than assuming.
Traditional associations
In crystal practice hematite is the grounding stone — the one traditionally worn for steadiness and for the root chakra. That is a tradition with a long history, and that is how we sell it.
Care
Hematite is iron, and iron rusts. Take it off before washing your hands, before a shower and before the gym, and dry it if it gets wet. Sweat is enough over time. Store it dry. It is hard but brittle — it chips rather than scratches when dropped on a hard floor.
What this is, and what it isn't
Hematite is a natural iron oxide mineral. Crystals have a long place in tradition and in ritual practice, and that is the spirit in which we sell them. There is no peer-reviewed evidence that any stone treats, cures or prevents a medical condition, changes your finances, or alters the physical energy of a room. Nothing on this page is medical, psychological or financial advice.
