Selenite Crystal Coaster (set of 2)

A pair of hand-polished coasters cut from natural Moroccan selenite — pure white with a luminous satin sheen. Selenite is the stone traditionally kept with other crystals, which is why a selenite coaster is where a lot of people rest their rings and bracelets at the end of the day. Reiki-charged before dispatch.

Benefits

• Two, not one. A pair covers a desk and a bedside, or sits either side of a centre table.
• It is where your jewellery lands. Rings, bracelets and tumbles rest on it overnight — the traditional dry alternative to water or salt.
• Dry cleansing matters practically. Water genuinely damages several stones, so a dry surface is the safer habit regardless of what you believe about it.
• It glows through. At 1 cm thick, light passes into the stone rather than off it.
• Smooth edges, made for daily use. Hand-polished, 9.5 cm across.
• A ritual, not a promise. The cleansing associations come from tradition, not from a measured property.

How to use them

• As the place your rings, bracelets and tumbles live overnight
• Kept at a bedside, a workspace or an altar
• In meditation and Reiki practice
• As a coaster — with one important limit, in the care note below

Our guide to using a selenite charging plate covers the overnight routine, and it applies to a coaster in exactly the same way. You can also browse the Selenite collection and Selenite Plates collection for related options.

About the stone

Selenite is a crystalline form of gypsum — calcium sulphate dihydrate, CaSO₄·2H₂O. It is Mohs 2, softer than your own fingernail, and genuinely translucent: hold a thin piece to a light and it glows through. The name comes from Selene, the Greek moon goddess, for exactly that reason — not from the element selenium, which it does not contain.

The part most sellers leave out: the large majority of items sold as “selenite” are satin spar, the fibrous milky-white form of gypsum. True selenite is transparent, bladed, rare and too fragile to polish into a disc. Both are the same mineral and neither is fake. Our article on selenite bracelet benefits explains it fully.

Care — read this before using them as coasters

Selenite dissolves in water. That is a real limit on a coaster, so we would rather say it plainly than sell you a surprise: never rest a wet glass, a cold drink that will sweat, or a hot cup on these. Never wash them. Keep them out of bathrooms and anywhere humid. Dust with a soft dry cloth.

Used for dry objects — jewellery, a watch, tumbled stones, a dry bottle — they last indefinitely. Used under a sweating glass, they will go cloudy and pitted. At Mohs 2 they also scratch against almost anything you put on them, so some marking with daily use is normal rather than a defect.

What this is, and what it isn’t

Selenite is a soft crystalline gypsum. Crystals have a long place in tradition and in ritual practice, and that is the spirit in which we sell them. There is no peer-reviewed evidence that any stone purifies a space, clears energetic blockages, cleanses or recharges another crystal, raises the vibration of a room, or activates a chakra. Nothing here is medical advice.
