About the stone

Moonstone is a feldspar, and its blue-white glow is a real optical effect called adularescence. The stone formed as two feldspars — orthoclase and albite — separated into alternating microscopic layers while cooling. Light entering the stone scatters off those layers and comes back as that drifting sheen, which appears to float just below the surface and moves as you turn your wrist.

Tilt the bracelet and the glow comes and goes. That is the stone behaving correctly, not a fault — the effect depends entirely on the angle between light, layers and your eye. It is the same class of effect as labradorite's flash.

The tradition

• New beginnings — moonstone is traditionally the stone associated with starting something.
• Intuition — the traditional association in crystal practice.
• Calm — traditionally worn as a calming focus.
• Named after the Moon, from Selene, the Greek moon goddess — for the glow, not for any claimed effect.

How to Use

• Wear it daily, or put it on deliberately when you want the reminder.
• Keep it on during meditation or journalling if that is part of your practice.
• Setting an intention before wearing it is the part that does something — and it comes from you, not the stone.

Care

Moonstone is about 6 on the Mohs scale and has cleavage planes, so it chips more easily than quartz — store it apart from harder beads. The thread is the weak point: take it off before the shower and the gym, and keep perfume off the beads.

What this is, and what it isn't

Moonstone is a natural feldspar with an optical layering effect. Crystals have a long place in tradition and in ritual practice, and that is the spirit in which we sell them. There is no peer-reviewed evidence that any stone stabilises emotions, reduces stress, supports intuition or decision-making, aids sleep, or heals emotionally. Nothing here is medical or psychological advice.
