Is this real moonstone, and how can I tell?
Moonstone is a feldspar whose glow comes from structure rather than colour: two feldspars separated into alternating microscopic layers as the crystal cooled, and light scattering between those layers produces a sheen that seems to float below the surface. Gemmologists call it adularescence. The glow should move as you tilt the stone, and vanish at some angles. A stone that looks evenly milky from every direction is usually glass or opalite.
How should I look after this bracelet?
Moonstone is Mohs 6 to 6.5 with cleavage planes, so it chips more easily than quartz. Set it down rather than dropping it, and keep it away from ultrasonic cleaners. On a stretch bracelet the elastic is what fails first, not the stone, so roll it on and off rather than stretching it wide, and take it off before showering.
Does this bracelet balance emotions or hormones?
