Is this real labradorite, and how can I tell?
Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar, and its flash is a real optical effect: as the crystal cooled it separated into alternating microscopic layers, and light reflecting off those layers interferes with itself, cancelling some colours and reinforcing others. The colour comes from layer thickness, not pigment. Mineralogists call it labradorescence. The flash appears only at certain angles and vanishes as you turn the piece. A stone that shimmers evenly from every direction is not labradorite.
How should I look after this tea set?
Mohs 6 to 6.5 with two good cleavage directions, meaning it splits cleanly rather than chipping. Avoid knocks and never use an ultrasonic cleaner. Wash by hand in warm — not boiling — water and dry at once; sudden temperature changes are what crack stone, and a dishwasher will do both at once. Lift a cup by the body rather than the handle or the rim, which is the thinnest part and where cracks start.
Does this tea set protect your aura or boost intuition?
No. Labradorite is traditionally associated with that, and the tradition is genuine and often very old, but there is no scientific evidence that any stone can protect your aura or boost intuition, or that it produces any physical or psychological effect.
