Rose quartz is quartz coloured pink by microscopic fibrous inclusions — electron microscopy has identified fibres of a dumortierite-like mineral running through the crystal. Mohs 7. Those fibres scatter light, which is why rose quartz is cloudy and milky rather than glassy. A vivid, transparent pink is the thing to be suspicious of: that is usually dyed quartz or glass.
