Tiger Eye & Rudraksha Rakhi for Brother | Natural Reiki-Infused Rakhi

A Raksha Bandhan rakhi made with natural tiger's eye beads and genuine rudraksha, on an adjustable cotton thread with a gold-tone spacer — built so it can be worn as a bracelet long after the festival rather than put in a drawer.

What it is made of

Tiger's eye is quartz that grew through a fibrous mineral and replaced it, keeping the fibre alignment intact. Those parallel fibres reflect light as a single moving band — an effect gemmologists call chatoyancy, from the French for "cat's eye" — and iron oxide left behind from the original mineral gives the gold and brown colour. It is Mohs 7, hard enough for daily wear.

Rudraksha is not a stone at all. It is the dried seed of Elaeocarpus ganitrus, a tree that grows across the Himalayan foothills and South-East Asia. The ridged segments running down the surface are the seed's natural divisions — the mukhi — and counting them is how rudraksha are traditionally classified. Because it is organic rather than mineral, it needs different care from the stone beside it, which is covered below.

The tradition, as tradition

Rakhi is a sister's thread tied on a brother's wrist, and the meaning of the day is in that act, not in the materials. Tiger's eye is called the stone of courage in crystal practice and is among the stones kept against nazar in Indian custom. Rudraksha is associated with Shiva and worn in devotional practice across India. We pass those on as the reason people choose these particular beads — they are traditions, not effects the rakhi has.

Care — two different materials

• Keep it out of water. The stone tolerates a splash; the rudraksha does not, and repeated soaking is what cracks a seed.
• Take it off before bathing or swimming, and keep perfume and sanitiser away from the gold-tone spacer.
• Wipe with a soft dry cloth. A drop of oil on the rudraksha once in a while keeps it from drying out — sandalwood or mustard oil is the traditional choice.
• Store it in the box between wears rather than loose in a drawer.

Our process

Each rakhi is cleansed and Reiki-charged by Certified Reiki Grandmaster Sweeny Panjrath before dispatch, and prepared with an intention set for the person receiving it. That is a description of how we make it, offered plainly as our own practice.

Natural variation

Tiger's eye banding and the ridging on each rudraksha differ piece to piece. Both are natural materials; the variation is the evidence of that.

What this is, and what it isn't

This is a handmade rakhi of stone, seed, thread and metal. It does not protect anyone, ward off the evil eye, or affect confidence, focus, calm, emotional balance or anyone's fortunes. There is no evidence that any stone or seed does, and Reiki has not been shown to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition. Nothing here is medical advice. What it honestly is: a well-made thread carrying a real tradition between two people, and something your brother can keep wearing.
