Is this a real seven-chakra set, and how can I tell? +

A seven-chakra piece pairs one stone with each of the seven chakras, usually running red at the root through violet at the crown. The stones should be visibly different materials rather than one material dyed seven colours; look for genuine differences in texture and translucency. Worth knowing: the familiar seven-chakra rainbow is not ancient. Chakras come from tantric Hindu and Buddhist practice, but the root-red-to-crown-violet colour scheme was popularised by Western writers in the early twentieth century, and matching one stone to each is a modern convention.

How should I look after this combo? +

Because it combines several minerals of different hardness and sensitivity, treat the whole piece as being as delicate as its softest stone: keep it dry, out of strong sun, and away from harsh cleaners. Keep the rakhi out of water, take it off before bathing, and store it in its box between wears rather than loose in a drawer. The tree in this combo is a wire-and-adhesive piece: never rinse or soak it, because water works into the wraps and the base and loosens them, usually permanently. Dust it with a soft dry brush and lift it by the base.
