What this is, and what it isn't

Citrine is quartz at Mohs 7. Note that most citrine on the world market is heat-treated amethyst or smoky quartz — still real quartz, but treated; we say so rather than let you assume otherwise. Keep it out of long sunlight, which pales the colour. The prosperity associations come from tradition, and there is no scientific evidence that crystals attract wealth. Frequently Asked Questions
Is this real citrine, and how can I tell? +

Citrine is quartz coloured yellow to orange by traces of iron. Mohs 7. Genuinely untreated citrine is uncommon and pale — a soft lemon or smoky honey. A deep orange-brown 'Madeira' tone almost always means heat treatment. Most citrine on the world market, ours included, is heat-treated amethyst. The two are the same mineral with the same iron impurity in different oxidation states, and heating amethyst to roughly 400-500C converts one to the other. It is permanent, and still real quartz.

How should I look after these tumbles? +

Citrine's colour is light-sensitive and fades permanently in sun. The common instruction to charge citrine in sunlight is one of the few pieces of crystal-care advice that actively damages the stone — use smoke, sound or a selenite plate instead. Small stones get pocketed and knocked together; keep them in a pouch rather than loose with keys or other stones.

Do these tumbles attract money or business? +

No. Citrine is traditionally associated with that, and the tradition is genuine and often very old, but there is no scientific evidence that any stone can attract money or business, or that it produces any physical or psychological effect. Nothing here is medical, psychological or financial advice. What it honestly does is remind you of something you decided yourself.
