Gomti Chakra and Rudraksha Crystal Tree

Rudraksha is not a stone at all. It is the dried seed of Elaeocarpus ganitrus, a tree that grows across the Himalayan foothills and South-East Asia. The ridged segments running down the surface are the seed's natural divisions, called mukhi. Genuine rudraksha shows irregular natural ridges and small surface pores; moulded imitations repeat an identical pattern. The gomti chakra is not a stone either: it is the operculum — the small trapdoor — of a sea snail, found along the Gomti river in Gujarat. One face carries a natural spiral, the other is flat and plain. Genuine ones are shell-light and slightly uneven; resin copies are heavier and identical to one another.

Because it is organic rather than mineral it needs different care from stone: keep it out of water, since repeated soaking is what cracks a seed, and a drop of oil occasionally keeps it from drying out. This is a wire-and-adhesive piece: never rinse or soak it, because water works into the wraps and the base and loosens them, usually permanently. Dust it with a soft dry brush rather than a cloth, which snags on the wires, and always lift it by the base.
