Clear quartz is silicon dioxide, the second most abundant mineral in the earth's crust. It is genuinely piezoelectric: squeeze a quartz crystal and it produces a measurable voltage; apply a voltage and it vibrates at an extremely stable frequency. That property runs every quartz watch and the clock in every computer.

It is also where claims about quartz amplifying energy come from. The physics is real; the extension is not. A crystal on your wrist is not oscillating and nothing is being amplified. We think the true story is the more interesting one.

Care

The wire wrap and the plating are the weak points, not the stone. A rough crystal has exposed edges and will catch on knitwear. Re-shape the cuff with both hands rather than one, and keep perfume and hand sanitiser off the gold finish — they strip plating faster than anything else. Quartz itself tolerates water, unlike selenite or pyrite.
