The minerals. Moonstone is a feldspar, and the blue-white shimmer that moves across it — adularescence — is real optical physics: microscopically thin alternating layers of orthoclase and albite scatter light as it enters the stone. That is why the glow shifts as you turn your wrist. At Mohs 6–6.5 with a distinct cleavage plane, moonstone is the more fragile of the two and will chip on a sharp knock. Rose Quartz is quartz (SiO₂), Mohs 7, and its pink comes from microscopic fibrous inclusions of a dumortierite-like mineral — which is also why rose quartz is cloudy rather than clear, and why it fades in strong sunlight. Keep the pair out of direct sun.

The tradition. In crystal practice Moonstone is associated with intuition and emotional steadiness, Rose Quartz with love and compassion. Those associations come from tradition and spiritual practice — they are not measured properties of the stones, and we say so on purpose.

How do I size an 8mm stretch bracelet?
