What this is, and what it isn't
The minerals. Aquamarine is beryl — beryllium aluminium silicate — at Mohs 7.5–8, one of the hardest and most durable gemstones there is, and the same mineral species as emerald; the blue comes from trace iron. Most aquamarine on the world market, including fine gem material, is routinely heated to remove a yellowish tint and deepen the blue. It is a standard, stable, long-accepted treatment and it does not make the stone less genuine — but it is a treatment, and you deserve to know it is normal in this stone. Moonstone is a feldspar, Mohs 6–6.5, and its floating blue-white glow — adularescence — is real optics: microscopically thin alternating layers of orthoclase and albite scatter light back at you, which is why the sheen moves as you turn your wrist. Moonstone has easy cleavage planes and is the more fragile of the two; treat it as the delicate one of the pair.
A question worth answering. Beryl contains beryllium, which is hazardous as a dust. In a finished polished bead the beryllium is locked into the crystal lattice and is not bioavailable — aquamarine is entirely safe to wear and handle. Only cutting, grinding or sanding it would create the risk, which is why lapidaries work it wet. Do not attempt to reshape it yourself.
The tradition. In crystal practice Moonstone is associated with intuition, emotional steadiness and new beginnings; Aquamarine with calm and clear speech and the Throat chakra. The rashi and Vastu guidance above comes from Jyotisha and Vastu Shastra. These are traditional and spiritual frameworks with long histories, and we respect them as such — but they are not measured properties of feldspar or beryl, and they are not scientific claims.
The evidence, and one point we want to be especially clear about. There is no peer-reviewed scientific evidence that crystals produce physical or psychological effects. In particular, no stone affects hormones, menstrual cycles, fertility, menopause or any endocrine function. Moonstone's long association with cycles and the feminine is symbolic — it comes from the stone's moonlike glow and from centuries of folklore, not from anything the mineral does to a body. We would rather say that plainly than let a customer put off getting real help for a hormonal or gynaecological problem.
What this pair honestly offers. Two deliberate objects, one on each wrist, that stand for how you have decided to show up: steady, and willing to say the difficult thing kindly. Ritual and symbol genuinely help people steady themselves before hard conversations — that mechanism runs through you, not through the stone, and it is a better reason to wear them than any claim above.
Please note. Nothing on this page is medical or psychological advice, and these bracelets are not a treatment for hormonal imbalance, anxiety, mood disorders, relationship difficulties or any other condition. If any of those is affecting your life, please speak to a qualified doctor or therapist. A crystal belongs alongside that care, never in place of it.
Frequently asked questions
Is this pair meant for one person, or does it split between two people?
It is designed as a set for one person — moonstone on the left wrist, aquamarine on the right, worn together. That said, plenty of customers buy it to split between two: a mother and daughter, two sisters, or a pair of friends who each keep one. Both uses are perfectly valid; the box holds both bracelets, so decide before gifting whether you want to divide them.
How do I know the moonstone is real and not glass or a dyed imitation?
Turn the bead slowly under a single light source and watch the sheen. Genuine moonstone shows adularescence — a blue-white glow that travels across the stone as the angle changes, because light is scattering between microscopically thin feldspar layers inside it. Glass and dyed imitations show a fixed, static shimmer that sits on the surface and does not move with the stone.
Is aquamarine usually treated, and does that make it fake?
Most aquamarine on the world market, including fine gem-quality material, is heated to remove a yellow-green tint and leave a cleaner blue. This is standard, permanent and accepted throughout the trade, and it does not make the stone anything other than genuine beryl. We mention it because you should hear it from us rather than assume untreated pale blue is the only real thing.
Which of the two is more fragile, and how should I care for them?
Moonstone, clearly. Aquamarine is beryl at Mohs 7.5–8 and shrugs off ordinary wear, while moonstone is a feldspar at Mohs 6–6.5 with distinct cleavage planes, meaning a sharp knock can chip or split it along an internal direction. Wipe both with a soft dry cloth, keep them off hard surfaces, and take the moonstone off before gym work or washing up.
How do I size an 8 mm stretch bracelet?
Wrap a paper strip or tape around your wrist bone and add about 1.5 cm for comfortable movement; this pair is made free-size to fit roughly 6.5 to 7.5 inch wrists. Always roll a stretch bracelet on and off over the hand rather than pulling it wide open — stretching the cord is what eventually breaks it. If your wrist is well outside that range, message us before ordering.
Do they need cleansing or charging, and how often?
There is no scientific basis for a stone holding or losing charge, so treat this as part of the practice rather than upkeep the object needs. If you follow the tradition, indirect moonlight or a selenite plate overnight around the full moon is the usual routine. Skip salt water and prolonged soaking entirely — both are hard on the elastic cord and on moonstone.
